This is the one with spikes.

Most paperweights are glass. Glass breaks. Glass has never once held a stack of invoices against a serious gust coming through an open shop window, and glass has absolutely never been machined from a solid billet of aircraft aluminum by a knife company.

The Grapnel has. The Spiked Grapnel went further.

Specifications

Model: Grapnel, Spiked

Material: 6061-T6 aluminum, machined from solid billet

Finish: Blue

Top Profile: Spiked

Weight: 4.4 oz

Primary Application: Paperweight, heavy duty

Country of Origin: Made in USA

Machined From Solid Billet

This is not cast. It is not stamped. It starts as one block of 6061-T6 and a machine removes everything that is not a paperweight.

6061-T6 is the aluminum alloy that shows up in aircraft structures and bicycle frames, chosen because it holds its shape under load. Your desk is unlikely to apply aircraft loads, but it is reassuring to know the margin is there.

Four and Four Tenths Ounces

That is the number that matters in a paperweight. For reference, a full can of soda is about 12 ounces, and most glass paperweights land under 3. The Grapnel sits at 4.4 oz of solid aluminum spread across a wide flat footprint, which is a different thing entirely from 4.4 oz stacked up vertically.

The Spiked Profile

The top edge is machined into a row of pronounced points. For paperweight purposes this does two things. It breaks up airflow across the top of the unit, and it makes extremely clear to anyone approaching your desk that your documents are under management.

Spiked is the most aggressive of the four Grapnel profiles. There is no subtle way to own it and no reason to try.

Weight Distribution Across Four Apertures

The four openings are not decorative. They move mass outward to the perimeter, which is exactly what you want in a paperweight, since a wide footprint resists tipping better than a tall one.

The apertures also happen to be sized such that a hand can rest comfortably on the unit during extended paperweight deployment. This is a coincidence. A very well machined coincidence.

Blue

Blue was chosen because a paperweight this serious should not be mistaken for an industrial component. The finish keeps the machining lines visible instead of filling them.

A Note on Deployment

Objects in this category are regulated differently from one state and city to the next. Check your local law before you order.

Why This One Stands Out

Four apertures, one row of spikes, and the only paperweight in the lineup that looks like it has opinions.

Proudly carrying American

https://lonestarknife.com/products/ncc-knives-grapnel-tactical-paperweight-spiked-blue-billet-6061-t6-aluminum-made-in-usa-ncc-grapnel-blue-spiked
