The SlipRidge is Benchmade's newest folder in the Hunt Collection, built around a 3.5 inch MagnaCut modified clip point. This one wears Rust Orange G10.

The feature that matters on a hunting knife is the one you cannot see. The handle scales are user removable and they cover the pivot, which keeps blood, hair, and grit out of the action while you are working. When you are done you take two screws out, clean it properly, and put it back together. Anybody who has field dressed an animal with a folder and then spent an evening trying to flush the pivot knows exactly why that matters.

Why Rust Orange

This is the version to take into the field. Orange G10 is the color you can find in leaf litter, in tall grass, or in the bed of a truck, and G10 does not care about weather, blood, or being knocked around the way wood does. If the wood version is the one you hand down, this is the one you actually use.

MagnaCut and SelectEdge

MagnaCut at 60 to 62 HRC is the steel to have on a knife that gets used wet. It holds an edge through real work and it resists rust without giving up toughness, which is the tradeoff older stainless steels always forced. Benchmade puts their SelectEdge ultra fine sharpening on it from the factory, so it arrives slicing rather than needing a session on a stone first.

The Blade and the Grip

A modified clip point gives you a fine tip for detail work with enough belly behind it for long cuts. At 3.5 inches it is a full size hunting blade, and at 0.114 inches thick it is ground to cut rather than to pry. The handle has contoured pinch points where your thumb and forefinger land, which is what gives you control on precision cuts rather than just a grip on the handle.

AXIS Lock, Next Generation

This runs Benchmade's next generation AXIS lock. Ambidextrous, one handed to open and to close, and strong under load. It is the mechanism Benchmade built their reputation on and the reason the patent expiring created a whole category of imitators.
