A full size out the front automatic in battle worn blue, with Nebula carbon fiber set into the handle.

The Dissident is Chaves Knives' OTF. This one runs a stonewashed M390 drop point on a battle worn blue anodized aluminum handle with a Nebula carbon fiber inlay and black PVD titanium hardware.

Note from Lone Star Knife and Supply: We picked these up directly from Chaves. The battle worn finish means this is the version that already looks like you have carried it.

M390

M390 is Bohler's powder stainless and it sits near the top of what any production knife carries. Edge retention is the headline and corrosion resistance is the part people underrate.

The trade is sharpening. M390 holds an edge long enough that you will rarely touch it, and when you do it wants diamond or ceramic rather than a basic stone.

That corrosion resistance matters more on an OTF than on a folder, because the blade lives down in a channel collecting whatever is in your pocket.

Battle Worn Blue

Battle worn is a finish that arrives already broken in. The anodizing is worked back so the high spots come through lighter and the recesses stay saturated, which is what a blue knife looks like after a year in a pocket rather than a week.

The practical upside is that the first real scuff does not stand out, because the finish is already made of them.

The Carbon Fiber Inlay

The handle is aluminum with carbon fiber set into it, not carbon fiber scales over a liner. The structure stays in the metal and the carbon does the job it is actually best at here, which is not looking like anything else on the table.

Patterned carbon is cut out of a laid up block, so the figure is whatever the machining exposed at that depth. No two handles land identically.

Why the Drop Point

The drop point is the shape that does the most things well. You get belly for slicing, a point that still works for detail, and a profile nobody looks twice at.

The tanto exists in the same battle worn blue and Nebula combination if you would rather trade the belly for a reinforced tip.

An Automatic

Out the front automatics are restricted in a number of states and cities. Worth checking your state and local law before you order.
