The Drop Point
The drop point is the shape that does everything reasonably well, which is why it has been the standard on working and hunting knives for a century. The spine curves down to the tip rather than being clipped away, so the point stays strong while the belly gives you a long sweeping edge for skinning or slicing. If you are only taking one fixed blade out, this is the profile to take.
1095 Is a Choice, Not a Compromise
1095 is a simple high carbon steel and that is the whole appeal. It takes a keener edge than most stainless will, and it comes back on a stone in a couple of minutes rather than a session. What it asks in return is that you keep it dry and wiped with a little oil, because it will rust if you neglect it and it will take on a patina whether you like it or not.
On a hunting profile that tradeoff makes more sense than on anything else. A carbon blade dressed out in the field and wiped down at the truck is how these knives were used for generations.
Green Micarta
Micarta is layered fabric set in resin, and it grips harder as your hands get wet, which is exactly when you do not want a knife moving. Green micarta darkens where you hold it, so it will look different in a few seasons than it does today.
Carry
This one ships on a Kydex sheath with a DCC clip rather than the Ulticlip the Bosses use.
