The steel
MagnaCut is hard to beat for a working fixed blade. It takes a keen edge, holds it through real use, and stays stainless enough that a wet day outdoors will not leave you fighting rust. Hellbender runs it at 62 to 64 HRC, on the harder end, so the edge lasts between sharpenings.
The Cerakote
Cerakote is a ceramic based coating baked onto the blade. On a stainless steel like MagnaCut it is not there to stop rust so much as to kill glare and take the abrasion that would otherwise scratch a bare blade. Coyote is the warm tan that reads as gear rather than as a knife.
The handle
Burlap micarta has a warmer, canvas-like texture that breaks in the more you use it and grips harder when your hands are wet. Against a coyote blade it is the most natural looking build in the batch.
Carry
It ships in a leather sheath from JRE Industries, a well known Wisconsin sheath maker. Leather is the classic pairing for a camp knife, quiet on the belt and easy on the edge.
Made in Ohio
Hellbender is a small shop in Hilliard, Ohio, building under RECMAN USA. They do the work in house short of laser cutting and heat treat, and back every knife with a lifetime warranty and free sharpening for life. Buying one keeps an American maker in business to build the next.
Why this one stands out
Coyote, burlap, and leather is about as cohesive as a working knife gets. Nothing on it is trying to be loud. One only.
