Hellbender built the Mudpup 4 in Hilliard, Ohio, to be the fixed blade you actually reach for at camp. It runs a 3.75 inch CPM-MagnaCut drop point, flat ground and finished in coyote Cerakote, on a full tang at 7.94 inches overall and 4.2 ounces. This one wears OD green canvas micarta scales and ships with a JRE leather sheath.

The steel

MagnaCut is hard to beat for a working fixed blade. It takes a keen edge, holds it through real use, and stays stainless enough that a wet day outdoors will not leave you fighting rust. Hellbender runs it at 62 to 64 HRC, on the harder end, so the edge lasts between sharpenings.

The Cerakote

Cerakote is a ceramic based coating baked onto the blade. On a stainless steel like MagnaCut it is not there to stop rust so much as to kill glare and take the abrasion that would otherwise scratch a bare blade. Coyote is the warm tan that reads as gear rather than as a knife.

The handle

OD green canvas micarta is the understated, woods-friendly option. Canvas micarta soaks up a little hand oil over time and gets grippier the harder you work it, so it improves with use instead of wearing out. Coyote and OD green is the pairing you see on field gear for a reason.

Carry

It ships in a leather sheath from JRE Industries, a well known Wisconsin sheath maker. Leather is the classic pairing for a camp knife, quiet on the belt and easy on the edge.
