The Ranch Hand

Hellbender built the Ranch Hand on the Outfitter handle with a shorter, thicker blade and a sheepsfoot grind. That combination gives you a full four finger grip on a knife with only a 3 inch cutting edge, which is the balance most people actually want on a belt knife. At 3.3 ounces you stop noticing it.

The Sheepsfoot Grind

A sheepsfoot has a straight edge and a spine that drops to meet it, so there is no upswept point to catch on what you are cutting. It is the shape for opening boxes, breaking down feed bags, and working close to your other hand. The tradeoff is that you give up the piercing point of a drop point.

MagnaCut and Cerakote

MagnaCut is the steel to have on a working fixed blade. It takes a keen edge, holds it, and stays stainless enough that a wet day will not leave you scrubbing rust. Hellbender runs it at 62 to 64 HRC. The OD Cerakote on top cuts glare and adds another layer of protection to the flats.

OD Blade, Black Handle

Green over black is the highest contrast build in this group. The blade reads as the colored part rather than the handle, which is the reverse of how most knives are put together. Black G10 underneath ignores weather completely.

Made in Ohio

Hellbender is a small shop in Hilliard, Ohio, building under RECMAN USA. They do the work in house short of laser cutting and heat treat, and back every knife with a lifetime warranty and free sharpening for life.

Why This One Stands Out

The Ranch Hand is new to us, and this is the first time we have carried the model. This is the one that looks like a knife somebody chose rather than one that came in a box.
