Microtech Built a Hunting Knife

Microtech made its name on automatics, so a fixed blade is the surprise in the catalog. The Akris was developed with input from hunters, and it shows in the proportions. The blade is short enough to steer at the tip for caping and detail work, and the handle is long enough to fill a closed fist when you need to drive it.

No ornament, no fidget factor, no mechanism to fail. This is the Microtech for people who were never going to buy an OTF.

M390MK on a Fixed Blade

M390MK is the Bohler blend Microtech specs for its own knives, with tighter carbon control than standard M390. On a hunting knife the corrosion resistance matters as much as the edge retention, since blood and moisture sit on a blade for the length of a field dressing.

At 0.114 inches thick it is ground thin for a fixed blade, which is the right call on a knife meant to slice rather than pry.

Full Tang

The steel runs the full length of the handle with the G10 scales bolted to it. There is no joint to work loose, which is the whole argument for a full tang on a knife that gets used hard and wet.

Black Kydex

The sheath is Kydex molded to this exact blade, so it seats with a positive snap and holds through a day of walking. Kydex does not absorb water or hold a smell the way leather does, which is the trade you make when you give up the leather version.
