The MSI in Orange Leaves, with a bronzed apocalyptic blade.

The MSI is the Microtech you can actually afford, a 3.9 inch M390MK folder on the Ram Lok bar lock with an injection molded tri-grip handle. This version pairs an Orange Leaves handle with a bronzed apocalyptic blade, which is a long way from the black and gray the MSI usually shows up in.

Note from Lone Star Knife and Supply: Bronzed apocalyptic is the finish that makes this one worth looking at twice. Apocalyptic on its own is a tumbled gray that hides wear. Running it bronzed puts a warm tone over that, and against the orange handle it is a combination almost nobody else is making at this price.

Why this one stands out

  • 3.9 inch M390MK blade in bronzed apocalyptic, plain edge
  • Ram Lok bar lock with an X button on both sides
  • Orange Leaves tri-grip polymer handle
  • Hardened steel liner plates inside the polymer

Ram Lok

Ram Lok is Microtech's crossbar lock. It closes from either side, and the release carries the stepped X button pattern, the same visual language as the Ultratech trigger switch applied to a manual folder.

Polymer With Steel Inside

The tri-grip handle is injection molded polymer, which is how the MSI stays under the price of Microtech's aluminum and titanium folders. The polymer is reinforced with hardened steel liner plates, so the lock and the pivot are bearing on steel rather than on plastic.

That is the engineering decision that makes the MSI work. The savings come out of the handle material, not out of the parts that matter.
