The Guppy 3.5

The Guppy is Nick's flagship folder. The name is a nod to McGee's Piranha, which is the knife that got him thinking about folders in the first place, and Nick has said he did not think his knife was worthy of the bigger fish. It has been his signature model for years now. The one he carries himself is a Guppy 3.5.

MagnaCut Under DLC

MagnaCut is the steel most makers land on when they want edge retention and corrosion resistance without picking one over the other. The DLC coating adds a hard, low friction surface that resists scratching and cuts glare, and it gives the blade a dark face that sets off the purple in the carbon.

Purple Flow Carbon and Smooth Titanium

Purple flow carbon has depth to it that a flat weave does not, with the pattern running in currents rather than a grid. Nick paired it with a plain smooth titanium lock side, which is the right call. A busy show side and a quiet lock side means the knife looks different from each direction and does not fight itself.

The Details Underneath

Nick runs Skiff bearings with washers inside to keep the bearings off the titanium, which is the kind of thing you only do if you are thinking about the knife ten years from now. The pocket clip is milled rather than bent, and the stonewashed hardware keeps the fasteners from disappearing into the blacked out blade.
