Mike Irie Did the Blade

Mike Irie is a Colorado knifemaker who has spent decades doing finish work that most shops will not attempt. A compound grind means more than one bevel angle on the same blade, which takes the edge thin where it cuts while leaving steel behind the spine.

Then he mirror polished it. Mirror is the finish with nowhere to hide. Every grind line, every low spot, every imperfection shows, which is why most production knives are satin or stonewashed. A mirror polished compound grind is a statement about whose hands were on it.

17-4 Steel Handle

This handle is not aluminum or titanium. It is 17-4 stainless, heat treated, and knurled. That makes it heavy, and it makes it feel like a tool from a different era. Steel handled folders went out of fashion because weight went out of fashion, and some people have been waiting for them to come back.

Black Lip Pearl

Black lip pearl is shell from the black lipped oyster, darker and more iridescent than white pearl, shifting green and blue depending on the angle. Against polished steel it is the one piece of color on the whole knife.

Pro-Tech produced 50 of Custom 001. Hand finished blades do not scale, which is why the number is what it is.
