Two Point Eight Ounces

That is the number that matters. A full size PM2 with a 3.47 inch blade that weighs less than three ounces is a different knife to carry than the G10 version, and the difference shows up by the end of the day rather than when you pick it up in a store. Spyderco got there by swapping G10 for injection molded fiberglass reinforced nylon and streamlining the Compression Lock itself.

You give up nothing in blade size or lock strength. What you give up is the heft some people like in a G10 PM2, so if that heft is why you carry one, stay with the G10.

Bi-Directional Texture

The FRN scales carry Spyderco's Bi-Directional Texture, which is molded into the handle in opposing directions so it resists your hand sliding forward or back. It grips harder than smooth G10 does, which is a fair trade for the lighter material.

CTS BD1N

BD1N is Carpenter's nitrogen enriched stainless, and it is the sensible working steel in the Spyderco lineup. It holds a good edge, resists rust well, and it comes back on a stone without a fight, which is more than you can say for the high vanadium steels. If you sharpen your own knives, this is a steel you will enjoy owning.

Blacked Out

The DLC coating on the blade and the black coated hardware make this the version Spyderco built for people who care about light discipline, or who just want a knife with nothing bright on it. DLC is a hard coating rather than a paint, so it wears far better than a standard black finish.

The Compression Lock

The Compression Lock is the reason people who own one PM2 end up owning several. It is strong, it closes one handed with your fingers never crossing the blade path, and it is the mechanism Spyderco built its reputation on.
