Centering is a major issue on this one. The blade sits against one side of the handle when closed and touches the liner. It opens and closes and the lockback works, but the blade is not centered in the channel and it makes contact. That is the whole reason this is priced where it is. If off center bothers you, this is not your knife.

With that said, this is a Bear & Son lockback in Coral Reef resin, serial 1 of 600, made in Jacksonville, Alabama.

Bear & Son has been building knives in the same Alabama plant for decades, doing their own heat treating and assembly under one roof, which is rarer than it should be at this price. The Coral Reef resin is the draw here. It is a poured resin in gray, red, and green that no two handles match exactly, set against steel bolsters. For a small traditional lockback it reads a lot more interesting than it has any right to.

Two and a half inches of stonewashed drop point on a nail nick, under three ounces, the kind of knife that lives in a pocket and opens mail for twenty years. Serial number 1 of 600 on a run this size is worth something to the right person.
