A Dead Reckon Ridgeback on blue aluminum, MagnaCut blade, integral button lock.

Dead Reckon runs the Ridgeback in several steels and several blade shapes across different batches, and the blade on this one carries no steel marking. Look the photos over before you buy.

How We Know the Steel

We do not guess at steel, so we asked. The original owner bought this one directly from Dead Reckon at RJ's Blade Runner Bazaar in Tennessee in May of 2026, confirmed it as MagnaCut, and sent us the receipt from the show. That is as good as provenance gets on an unmarked blade, and it is why this is listed as MagnaCut rather than listed with a question mark.

Why This One Stands Out

  • MagnaCut, confirmed by the original owner's receipt from the maker
  • Blue anodized aluminum, which is a harder color to find than the black and FDE runs
  • Integral button lock machined into the handle rather than bolted in
  • Has the box

An Integral Button Lock

Most button locks use a separate insert or a caged assembly pinned into the handle. An integral lock machines the mechanism out of the handle material itself, so there are fewer parts to shift and fewer surfaces that can wear out of position. It costs more machine time, which is most of why you see it on small shop knives and not on production ones.

MagnaCut

MagnaCut gives you edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance without trading any of the three, which is why it has become the steel people ask for by name. At 0.140 inches of stock on a 3.23 inch blade, this is built to actually cut rather than to sit in a case.

Aluminum, and What It Buys You

Aluminum sits between titanium and G10 on this frame. Lighter than titanium, stiffer than a composite, and it takes anodizing in colors titanium cannot easily reach. The blue here is anodized, so the color lives in the oxide layer rather than sitting on top as paint.

About Dead Reckon

Dead Reckon builds the Ridgeback in the USA in small batches, which is why the steels, finishes, and blade shapes shift from run to run. It also means no two batches are quite the same, and a given configuration does not come back around.

About The Back Door

The Back Door is where trade ins, returns, blems, demos, and one-offs go. Everything in it is described plainly, so you know exactly what you are getting and why it is here.
