This is the automatic Smooth Criminal, not the manual flipper version. Button lock, push button fire, 3 inch S35VN drop point on a hard anodized aluminum chassis. See the photos for the handle color and blade finish before you buy.

The Smooth Criminal was the knife that got Medford into aluminum chassis button locks, and the auto is the version that costs the most new and shows up used the least. Greg Medford builds these in Phoenix and the shop does not appear to believe in thin material. Better than a half inch thick through the handle, 0.15 inch stock behind a 3 inch blade, and it sits in the hand like something you could drive a fence post with. That is the whole idea.

S35VN is the sensible steel in the Medford lineup. It takes a good edge, holds it through actual use, and sharpens without a diamond plate and an afternoon. On a short drop point with that much material under it, you have a blade that will not complain about anything reasonable you ask it to do.

This one goes to the person who wants an American made automatic that feels substantial, at a number well below what Medford charges for them new.
