Why This One Stands Out

  • Zero Blade Play, so the blade locks up with no movement when deployed
  • M390MK tanto, stonewashed
  • Gen III chassis with the wider X-Button and Torx hardware
  • Has the box, no fall damage

What ZBP Actually Means

Blade play is the one thing people complain about on out the front autos. The blade has to travel through a track, and a track with enough clearance to let it move is a track with enough clearance to let it wiggle once it is out. Zero Blade Play is Microtech's fix, and it is the reason the Gen III locks up like a folder does.

The Gen III also brought the Dual Fuel Drivetrain and the Crud Kutter system, which is Microtech's way of saying the action handles pocket lint instead of choking on it.

The Tanto

The tanto puts a second shorter edge at the front at an angle to the primary one, so the point is backed by more steel than a drop point leaves. You give up some of the belly that makes a drop point slice well. That is the trade, and it is a deliberate one.

M390MK

M390MK is Bohler's powder steel and it runs through most of Microtech's line. Edge retention and corrosion resistance well past basic stainless, with enough toughness for everyday cutting.

An Automatic

Out the front automatics are restricted in a number of states and cities. Worth checking your state and local law before you order.
