Why This One Stands Out

  • MagnaCut in the Salt line, so corrosion resistance without giving up edge holding
  • 2.8 oz on a 3.37 inch blade, which is remarkable for a knife this size
  • Ball Bearing Lock, fully ambidextrous open and close
  • Bright yellow, so you will find it when you set it down on a deck or in the grass
  • Has the box

Lightweight Versus the G10 Salt

Spyderco builds the Manix 2 Salt two ways and they are different knives in the hand. The G10 version has textured scales over liners and more heft to it. This is the Lightweight, built on an FRCP handle with no liners, and it comes in at 2.8 ounces. If you have ever stopped carrying a folder because you could feel it in your pocket all day, the Lightweight is the answer to that.

Why MagnaCut in a Salt Knife

Salt steels have historically asked you to trade edge retention for rust resistance. H1 would not rust at all and also would not hold much of an edge. MagnaCut does not make you choose. It has the chromium to shrug off saltwater and the carbide structure to hold a working edge, which is why it took over the Salt line.

FRCP

FRCP is fiberglass reinforced co-polymer. Chopped glass fiber mixed into the polymer before molding, which makes the finished handle far stiffer than plain plastic while staying light. There is no steel in this handle at all, and that is where the weight savings come from.

The Ball Bearing Lock

A caged ball sits between the blade tang and the handle and gets wedged into place when the blade opens. To close it you pull the cage back, which happens on the spine rather than in the blade path, so neither hand ever crosses the edge. It works identically left handed and right handed, which most locks do not.
