SPY27

SPY27 is Crucible's steel made to Spyderco's spec, and it is the reason to pick this over a standard Para 3 Lightweight. It is built around cobalt and niobium rather than chasing maximum hardness, which means good edge retention and strong corrosion resistance while staying easy to sharpen. It also develops a soft patina with use rather than staying mirror bright.

About the Sharpening

The previous owner put his own edge on this knife, so it does not have the factory grind anymore. Worth saying plainly. On a working steel like SPY27 that is a normal part of ownership rather than a problem, and whatever edge is on it now, you will be putting your own on it soon enough.

The Para 3 Lightweight

This is the Para Military 2 shrunk down and lightened up. Same Compression Lock, same grip geometry, under two and a half ounces. It is the Spyderco people carry when they do not want to think about carrying a knife.
