A big OTF that does not pretend to be subtle.

The Colossus is the larger end of Heretic's out the front lineup, and this version pairs a Breakthrough Green anodized chassis with a two tone black MagnaCut tanto. It is a lot of knife in the hand, and it carries the presence you would expect at 8.5 inches open.

The grip tape inlays are the detail that makes it work. They give you something to hold onto without turning the handle into sandpaper.

The Tanto Grind

The tanto puts a lot of steel behind the tip, which is the point of the shape. It gives up some slicing ability in trade for a tip that holds up when you are pushing through material that fights back.

The two tone finish leaves the flats dark and the grinds bright, so the geometry actually reads instead of disappearing into a uniform coating.

MagnaCut Steel

MagnaCut has become the default answer for a reason. It holds an edge well, it resists corrosion better than most steels in its hardness range, and it does not get chippy when you ask it to work.

On a knife this size, that combination matters more than it would on a small folder.

Carrying It

This is not a light pocket knife and it does not carry like one. If you already carry an OTF and want something with more blade and more hand filling grip, the Colossus is the step up.

If you are looking for something that disappears in slacks, look at the Hydra or the Medusa instead.
