The Koschei is Heretic's crossbar lock folder, designed by Tony Marfione Jr., who hand grinds every Heretic blade. This is the configuration people have been requesting since the model launched, a stonewash CPM-MagnaCut blade on a black chassis. It opens by thumb hole, runs ambidextrous, and breaks down without tools.

The Finish People Wanted

Heretic has run the Koschei in battleworn, bronze, and blizzardworn. What they had not done until now is plain stonewash on a black chassis, which is the version that gets asked about at every show. Stonewash hides wear better than any finish short of a coating and it does not read as tactical the way a blacked out blade does, so this is the Koschei you carry without thinking about it.

The Crossbar Lock

The Koschei was Heretic's first crossbar lock and it is still the only one they make. Ambidextrous, one handed to open and close, and it comes apart with no tools when you want to clean it. That last part matters more than it sounds. A folder you can strip on a kitchen table is a folder that stays running.

MagnaCut, Hand Ground

Every Heretic blade is hand ground by Tony Marfione Jr. On a 3.5 inch MagnaCut single edge, that means the bevels are set by someone who has ground thousands of them rather than by a machine working to a tolerance. MagnaCut itself gives you edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance without trading any of the three.
