The Crossbar Lock

A crossbar lock is ambidextrous and it keeps your fingers out of the blade path when you close the knife. That is the practical argument. The other one is that it is the lock most people reach for without thinking about it, because pulling a bar back is easier than finding a liner with your thumbnail.

Heretic builds theirs to run smooth out of the box rather than needing a break in period.

Blacked Out

DLC on the blade and tactical hardware everywhere else. DLC is diamond like carbon, applied in a vacuum chamber rather than sprayed on, and it is harder than the steel underneath it.

Matching the hardware to it is the part that is easy to skip. Bright screws against a DLC blade undo the whole look, and this one does not have them.

Interchangeable Scales

The Koschei takes swappable handle scales, so the knife you buy is not the only configuration it will ever be. That is unusual at this price and it is part of why people end up with more than one.

MagnaCut

MagnaCut was designed to stop making you choose between edge retention, toughness and corrosion resistance. It is the steel that made a lot of older premium steels look like compromises, and at this point it is the default for a reason.
