Why This One Stands Out

  • Hand painted Red Cel Shade, no two identical
  • MagnaCut tanto with a reinforced tip
  • GTC race bearings, which is a nicer pivot than most knives at this price carry
  • 2.1 oz on a 7.75 inch knife
  • Serialized, number 138, and it has the box

Cel Shade Is Hand Painted

Cerakote applied by hand and sealed under a clear coat, built to read like comic book cel shading with depth in it rather than a flat color. Because a person paints each one, they do not match each other. That is the appeal and it is also why these runs are small.

The Tanto Versus the Recurve

Heretic builds the Medusa in both. The Recurve has a curved edge that pulls material into the cut and slices well. The Tanto puts a second shorter edge at the front at an angle to the primary one, so the point is backed by a lot more steel. If you want the tip that takes abuse, this is the one of the two to have.

GTC Bearings and the Lockbar Stabilizer

GTC makes the race bearings in the pivot, which is a step up from caged ball bearings and most of why the action feels the way it does. The frame lock has a steel insert at the contact point so the lockbar does not wear itself into the tang, and a Lockbar Stabilizer keeps the bar from being overbent. Those are the details that decide whether a folder is still tight in five years.

MagnaCut

MagnaCut gives you edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance without trading any of the three. On a 3.25 inch tanto in a 2.1 oz knife, it is about as much performance as you can carry for the weight.
